For my first time out (IDPA) PDF Print E-mail

Below is on Brian's first IDPA match. Brian is one of our Level II students:

Excellent day, VERY glad I went along learned a lot about how the "game" is played and how I reacted to the simulations!

1st stage I was somewhat nervous / excited so I tried to just remember the training and it worked!! went through the stage all down zero and in a very respectful time! got immediate compliments from the SO & MD regarding the shooting :D the poppers turned out to be some sort of rubber so no steel so the distance was not a problem. Came away from the stage totally hyped hahaha couldn't believe the physiological reaction to even a small stage....

2nd stage was good ...

3rd stage was good, face away from 4 targets and turn, draw and move. think I dropped some singles again (sight picture :D )

4th stage was two head shots while moving forward and two targets tactical order & sequence 1 - 2 - 1, a lot of folks got a lot of procedurals, ran up tot he targets and fired etc. me, very happy took the head shots clean and "heal - toe" to the targets while engaging, got a lot of complements on style and shooting :D not the fastest but up there with the top few!

For my first time out I was VERY pleased, I didn't screw up, I recovered from the equipment failure and put in times that most of the guy's been doing this for years couldn't match (although I wasn't aiming to go "fast" just smooth ;) ) overall only dropped 9 points over four stages (too many ;) ).

Couple of things I took away, everyone treated this as a "game" which is fine but which meant they ran / rushed / and ignored tactics which is fine for them, almost everyone who wasn't "new" ran with light loads ( I saw some .45's recoil like a 9mm ) and where a target called for 2 shots they emptied 4 across the target getting in a couple of okay shots in the process (not limited Vickers).......

At the briefing the guy told the newbie's that accuracy wasn't the only important thing, speed was important.... i.e. if you walk away with -0 your not going fast enough... amazingly almost all of the "top" results had in excess of 15-25 points down? these were the folks running and firing "rapidly" hey I guess it works for them but for me the tactics and training shone through in my humble opinion and I was tight and smooth which can only get better with time!
